Huawei Revealed to be Top Sponsor of Australian Politicians’ Overseas Travel

The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) recently found Huawei to be the top corporate sponsor for overseas travel of Australian politicians. The revelation comes after several lawmakers moved to have the Chinese telecoms giant to be banned from participating in a roll-out of Australia’s 5G next-generation communications network due to privacy and security concerns.

According to disclosure registers, Huawei paid for 12 trips to Shenzhen by Australian federal politicians, which included business class flights, local travel, accommodation and meals, from 2010 to present.

However, Huawei Australian spokesman Jeremy Mitchell said the company was not doing anything wrong and even invited the media, business, think tanks and politicians to discuss the matter.
