India’s Police to Use AI, Analytics to Improve Crime Data Analysis

State Police Chief & Director General of Police (DGP) of the Odisha State Police RP Sharma said this week that they will be using cutting edge technology, particularly artificial intelligence, data analytics and mobile computing to aid investigations starting 2019.

Sharma said that AI will help spot any procedural mistakes officers make, and allow a quicker scan of the police database to identify suspects through images, past FIRs, fingerprints, voice samples, as well as explore possible connections to any gangs.

The police chief added that Odisha police have already made significant strides in its use of IT last year, and it is now continuing its efforts to be one of the leading states in terms of IT use in policing.
