Intel: Spectre-proof CPUs Ready to Ship by Second Half of 2018

Intel announced yesterday that next-generation Xeon Cascade Lake chips, along with the new 8th generation Intel Core processors will no longer be affected by the Spectre vulnerability. The redesigned CPUs will be shipped as early as the second half of the year.

According to Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, they used partitioning in certain parts of the processors which will act as “protective walls” between applications and user privilege levels.

The new CPUs will no longer be affected by Variants 2 and 3. However, until the new CPUs hit the market, users are still encouraged to apply the latest patches
