IT Firm Quick Heal Discovers More Fake Apps on Google Play

Researchers from cybersecurity company Quick Heal said this week that they were able to identify a number of fake apps on Google’s App Store that trick users into rating or downloading other apps.
Android malware analyst at Quick Heal Rupali Parate warned that the applications usually masquerade as a legitimate PDF reader, PDF Downloader, PDF Scanner etc., but do not function as such. Instead, it prompts the user to give other apps 5 stars in order to unlock the app’s functionality within 24 hours.
However, the app will just start the same look again after 24 hours, asking the user to login with some created password and asks them to download the same application to unlock the application,” Parate said.
