Japan Won’t Recommend Against Malicious Telecoms Equipment

Government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said this week that Japan will not be prohibiting companies from purchasing potentially malicious telecoms equipment.

Despite issuing a policy document last Monday on the need to maintain cybersecurity during procurement, it is said that the comment suggests that the government is not likely to extend a policy of not buying such equipment to private firms.

It was also noted that the government’s recent moves is aimed at preventing government procurement from Huawei and ZTE.
