Kaspersky Labs: Cryptojacking Now Bigger Than Ransomware

Cybersecurity giant Kaspersky Labs recently reported that cryptojacking has now become a bigger cyber threat than ransomware.

The antivirus firm said that this type of cybercrime, where computers are enslaved to mine cryptocurrencies, has rapidly overtaken the previously popular method of importing ransomware seen in the prior years of 2017 & 16.

Cryptojacking has reportedly grown exponentially in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), with mining attacks on users in general rising almost fourfold within this region of the world. This would mean that over 10 million more attacks is taking place over the course of 2018 (13 million) as opposed to just over 3.5m in 2017.
