LTFRB Gives Grab 5 Days to Explain Fare Change

The LTFRB issued a show-cause order last Wednesday seeking an explanation from Grab for alleged unauthorized fares. The agency gave the ride-hailing company 5 days to comply, or face suspension or cancellation.

The order was said to have been a reaction to a revelation by PBA Party-list Representative Jericho Nograles who said that Grab had been charging passengers Php 2/min of travel time.

In response, Grab said that LTFRB is aware of the extra charge, and the Chairman had already acknowledged the scheme last June 2017. Grab Philippines Public Affairs head Leo Gonzales also cited Department Order 2015-011 which allows TNCs to set their own fares, subject to LTFRB oversight “in cases of abnormal disruptions of the market.”
