Malaysia to Look into Twitter Bot Activity
Malaysia’s communications and multimedia minister said that the country’s regulators will be looking into the activity of “bots” or automated accounts on Twitter after receiving numerous complaints last Friday.
Communications Minister Salleh Said Keruak revealed that Twitter was being flooded with thousands of pro-government and anti-opposition messages a few weeks before Malaysia’s elections.
Meanwhile, the IT bureau of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s ruling party, the United Malays National Organisation, denied running the bots and said that they did not know who was behind it.
Twitter currently allows bot accounts but restricts the posting of identical messages from multiple accounts.
