Mobile Number Portability Law in the Philippines already in effect
Philippine telecommunications subscribers can now enjoy easy and free transfers of their mobile service subscriptions with the official implementation of Republic Act 11202 or the Mobile Number Portability Act last September 30, 2021.
The law was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last February 2019, however implementation was delayed due to challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Mobile Number Portability Act seeks to provide the power of choice by giving subscribers the option to move between the telecommunications providers in the country without charges or penalties to be incurred. In spite of the transfer, subscribers will be able to maintain their existing mobile numbers.
The National Telecommunications Commission spearheads the implementation of the Mobile Number Portability Act and assures subscribers that the number portability service is free of charge and should be completed within 48 hours.
