New Browser Extension Alerts User of Fake News Sites
A new browser extension for the Edge and Chrome browser called NewsGuard claims to be able to alert users if they are visiting a site that publishes fake news.
The extension, launched by an organization of the same name, will display a particular color rating for the credibility of the news site the user is on. The NewsGuard icon will appear purple for sites that publish satire, yellow for sites that anyone can contribute to, grey for unreviewed sites, and red for those that “fail to maintain basic standards of accuracy and accountability”.
News sites such such as dailykos.com, washingtonpress.com, and shareblue.com have already been flagged as “red” for being too liberal or progressive, while sites such as thegatewaypundit.com, infowars.com, and theblaze.com were also given the same rating for being alt-right or having a conservative bias.
