New EU Proposal Expected to Constrain Tech Giants Business Practices
It was reported last Thursday that the European Union is proposing a new law that would impact the commercial relations of tech giants such as Google, Apple, and Amazon with smaller businesses.
The new rules will require services such as app stores and search engines to be more transparent on how they rank results. It will also give companies the right to sue online platforms that do not practice non-discrimination and transparency.
EU Commissioner for the Digital Economy Mariya Gabriel stressed that while platforms and search engines are important channels that help European businesses reach consumers, it must be ensured that they do not abusing their power and harm their business users.
