New Study Says Facebook a Contributor to Racial Violence in Communities

A recent landmark study from researchers at the University of Warwick suggests that Facebook may be fueling racial violence in communities.

Analyzing variables related to anti-refugee attacks in Germany such as wealth, demographics, support for far-right politics, newspaper sales, number of refugees, history of hate crime and number of protests, researchers Karsten Müller and Carlo Schwarz found that town with higher Facebook use experienced more refugee attacks.

The data showed that whenever the per-person use of Facebook increased one standard deviation above the national average, the attacks rose by as much as 50%.
