New York Creates First Ever US Cryptocurrency Task Force

New York state (NYS) legislature assemblyman Clyde Vanel announced in a Facebook post last January 3 that the state has created the nation’s first ever task force dedicated to the study, definition, use, and regulation of cryptocurrency.

Vanel, who is also the Chair of Subcommittee on Internet and New Technologies, said that since the state leads the whole country in finance, it should also lead in proper fintech regulation. He expects that the task force will help strike a balance between having a robust blockchain industry and cryptocurrency economic environment, while protecting New York investors and consumers.

The bill, dubbed “The Digital Currency Study Bill”, was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo into law on Dec. 21, 2018.
