The Philippine National Privacy Commission (NPC) rejects the request of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) to suspend data privacy rules for contact tracing. The group claims that more funds from contact tracing will be saved with the ease of the Data Privacy Act’s (DPA) enforcement. NPC Commissioner Raymund E. Liboro replied that no scientific basis supports the contention that the DPA’s suspension would be an effective measure against the pandemic. He also stated that processing personal and sensitive personal information for contact tracing is permissible under the DPA.
