Pichai: No Plans to Launch Chinese Search Engine
0 comments
Google CEO Sundar Pichai told a U.S. congressional panel this week that his company had “no plans” of launching a search engine in China, amid increased scrutiny of big tech firms.
Lawmakers and Google employees have raised concerns on the rumors of search engine that would comply with China’s strict internet censorship and surveillance policies. While Pichai assured that there had been no talks with the Chinese government as of yet, his firm did work on such a project for a while and had as much as 100 people working on it at a time.
Pichai also did not clarify what steps Google would take to comply with Chinese laws if it decides to do business again in the country.
