PNG to Push Through with Huawei Internet Infrastructure Deal, Dismisses Counter-Offers

A minister from the government of Papua New Guinea confirmed last Monday that they will be continuing the deal with Huawei to build the country’s internet infrastructure.

Minister William Duma also confirmed that they have declined offers from Western countries, a decision that reportedly disappointed the US, Japan and Australia which had urged PNG to dump the Chinese company.

Duma said that they are upholding the existing agreement with honor and integrity, and added that Huawei had already done 60 percent of the work on the project.
