Reddit Removes 944 Russian Troll Accounts

Popular social news aggregator Reddit announced this week that it has banned around 1000 accounts linked to Russia’s Internet Research Agency (IRA) which is considered to be a “troll factory” dedicated to spreading propaganda and misinformation.

Social media sites such as Facebook and Reddit recently ramped up efforts to address content violations on their platforms due to pressure from various governments. It was noted however, that Reddit had been more effective in tackling the problem of trolls and similar offenders, with CEO Steve Huffman saying that were able to take down 944 IRA-linked accounts, as well as subreddits that glorify, incite, or call for violence or physical harm against individual or groups.
