Russian Central bank deputy governor Dmitry Skobelkin revealed last Tuesday that more than $17 million had been stolen by hackers from various banks in the country in 2017.

Skobelkin said that the attackers had used the Cobalt Strike security-testing tool on around 240 credit organizations which resulted to 11 successful heists.

Russia had recently been denying in recent months accusations that it had been supporting hackers that targeted organizations in US and Europe, and is said to be eager to show that the country too has had its fair share of cyber attacks.
