Southeast Asian Internet Economy to Exceed $240 Billion by 2025

A recent report from Google-Temasek predicts that Southeast Asia’s economy will exceed $240 billion by 2025, as growth in e-commerce and ride-hailing is fueled by the rapid adoption of affordable mobile internet.

The region’s internet economy is expected to reach about $72 billion by 2018, up 37 percent from a year earlier, as measured by GDP.

The report says that Indonesia, the largest and fastest-growing internet economy in Southeast Asia, is expected to grow to $100 billion by 2025 and account for 40 percent of the region’s spending.

It was also revealed that majority of the funds raised in the region went to nine internet unicorns in the region, which included Grab, Go-Jek, and Lazada.
