State Papers Reveal Jack Ma as Communist Party Member

State-run newspaper, the People’s Daily, revealed this week Alibaba chairman Jack Ma’s membership in China’s Communist Party.
Ma’s name was included in a list of 100 people which had helped drive the country “reform and opening up” process. Ma is China’s richest man with a fortune of $35.8 billion.
As the country’s best-known capitalist, it was said that the revelation of Ma’s political affiliation came as a surprise to many. It is rumored that the paper may have chosen to mention Ma’s affiliation to help Beijing bring China’s private companies more in line with Party values.
