Tim Cook Warns Against Weaponization of Data

In his keynote speech at the 40th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, Apple’s Tim Cook warned against the the world’s data privacy crisis and said that the personal data of individuals are being weaponized with military efficiency.

 

Congratulating Europe for the GDPR at the Brussels meeting, Cook said that the personal information trade has exploded into a data industrial complex and warned that the mass collection of such data amounts to surveillance.

 

Without naming Facebook and Google, Cook added that the stockpiles of personal data only serve to enrich the companies that collect them.
