At a Reuters Event in Toronto last Monday, Google VP and renowned computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton said that the development and application of AI in various fields will inevitably give rise to new challenges which regulators may find difficult to tackle.

The pioneer in deep learning recently led a group of researchers from the University of Toronto in the development of several key algorithms used by neural networks to process massive amounts of data. These networks are trained to identify patterns so it can perform tasks like a human brain would.

Hinton also revealed that deep learning may soon find more effective treatments to certain diseases, and make more accurate diagnosis than physicians.
