Trump Opposes Self-Regulation of Twitter, Facebook
US president Donald Trump said this week that it would be dangerous if social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook were to self-regulate.
The comment echoes claims by the right that tech companies are increasingly trying to censor conservatives. Trump had previously slammed Twitter for allegedly showing “discriminatory” behavior, saying that the company had been “shadow-banning” prominent Republican figures by de-emphasizing them from search results.
However, it was noted that Twitter and Facebook are private companies which are legally allowed to ban accounts that violate their guidelines or terms of service.
