US-CERT Issues Guide on Proper Disposal of Electronic Devices

The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) published this week an official advisory detailing recommendations for the proper deletion of data from electronic devices that a user wishes to dispose of.
The guide goes in depth into four steps of the process, namely backing up the data, deleting it, overwriting old data, then destroying the device, which is optional.
US-CERT says that the instructions are universal and can be applied to computers, smartphones, tablets, cameras, media players, external storage devices, and even gaming consoles.
