US DoJ Charges Chinese Officers, Hackers

The US Department of Justice charged this week two Chinese intelligence officers, six hackers and two insiders for conspiring to hack and steal company secrets from US and European firms.

According to a press release by the DoJ, the officers and co-conspirators worked for the Jiangsu Province Ministry of State Security (‘JSSD’), headquartered in Nanjing, a provincial foreign intelligence arm of the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of State Security (‘MSS’).

The team reportedly focused on stealing information on a new turbofan engine being developed by a French aerospace manufacturer and a US-based counterpart.
