US HHS Release New Cybersecurity Guidelines for Healthcare Industry

The Department of Health and Human Services issued last Friday a four-volume publication on cybersecurity guidelines which focuses on voluntary practices aimed at reducing security risks and bolstering cybersecurity programs across the industry.

The guidelines, called Health Industry Cybersecurity Practices: Managing Threats and Protecting Patients was drafted with the help of more than 150 cybersecurity healthcare and cybersecurity leaders.

Officials, however, said that practices are not actually requirements, since such a dogmatic approach won’t be effective given the dynamic nature of cyber threats and the rapid evolution and adoption of technology.
