US Supreme Court Judges Disagree on Google Privacy Settlement

Justices in the US Supreme Court are reportedly divided over Google’s privacy case and could not come to an agreement on whether to rein in a form of settlement in class action lawsuits that will give the money to charity and other third parties instead of to people affected by the alleged wrongdoing.

Liberal judges wanted the money to be put into good use since dividing the money among the plaintiffs would result to a negligible per-person payment. However, conservatives argued that the money may go to groups that some of the plaintiffs may not support, and that the settlement money could go to institutions which Google is already a donor of.
