VP Reveals Why Facebook Needs Personal Info
In a blog post last Monday, vice president of ads Rob Goldman clarified why Facebook collects data including age, interests, location and other details from its users.
Goldman says that such data helps them better understand what users like so that they can cater ads that are more relevant. He explained that in the case of their Pixel tool, which can be built into websites, online retailers can suggest similar products that users may be looking for.
Goldman also reiterated that Facebook doesn’t look at users as the product and does not sell the user’s private information.
