WEF Compares Cyberattacks to Natural Disasters

The World Economic Forum recently warned that cyberattacks have the same potential for disruption as natural disasters and climate change.

In its Global Risks Report 2019, the WEF said that massive data breaches and large-scale cyber attacks ranked fourth and fifth in a list of events that pose the most risk globally.

While these cyber events have placed higher in the previous year, it is no indication that attacks are decreasing, as most of the respondents expect the problem to escalate in 2019.

WEF also considered cyber attacks on infrastructure as a significant risk because of increasing digitalization and the growth of IoT in recent years.
