WhatsApp Messaging Limits to Stay Despite Calls From Brazil’s Leading Presidential Candidate

Facebook announced this week that it will not be changing WhatsApp’s group messaging limits in Brazil, despite calls from Jair Bolsonaro, the leading candidate in Brazil’s presidential race.

Bolsonaro, a far right lawmaker, said that he will fight for the right of users to forward text, audio and video messages to hundreds of contacts on the Facebook-owned messaging app that has become a key political battleground.

However, WhatsApp VP of policy and communications Victoria Grand says that the company would like to keep the number of forwarded messages to 20, but said that the policy was an “experiment” that “could change over time.”
