WhatsApp Restricts Forwarding to Fight Fake News

WhatsApp said this week that it will be limiting the forwarding of messages up to five times only in support of its efforts to prevent the spread of misinformation.

 

The change, which has been rolled out globally to around 1.5 billion users, was initially tried in India after the previous limit of 20 was rumored to have led to the lynching of child kidnappers around the country.

 

It was also reported that Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro allegedly using WhatsApp to send thousands of messages defacing his opponent.
