White House Drops Cybersecurity Coordinator Position

White House national security advisor John Bolton last Tuesday terminated the position of cybersecurity coordinator, a senior role which was once occupied by Rob Joyce who went back to the NSA. It is said that despite the importance of the position, Bolton and the Trump administration regarded it as “another layer of bureaucracy”.

Bolton had reportedly emailed staffers at the National Security Council and explained to that the council’s cyber team already has two senior directors.

However, Democratic senator and vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner responded in a tweet that the government should be investing in the nation’s cyber defense and not rolling it back.
