Workshop on New Rule on Cybercrime Warrants (October 10, 2018)
Just a few weeks after the promulgation by the Philippine Supreme Court of the Rule on Cybercrime Warrants, Disini & Disini Law Office and Digital Freedom Network organized a whole day workshop discussing the implications of the new rule in the investigation and litigation of cybercrime cases. The workshop, Investigating Cybercrimes: The New Rule on Cybercrime Warrants, was held last 10 October 2018 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City. There were over 70 participants in the workshop, including in-house counsels, data protection officers, and information security officers from a diverse set of companies. The event was co-presented by Disini & Disini Law Office, with partners ISACA, Manila Bulletin, and After Six.
The sessions were presided by Prof. Jose Jesus M. Disini, Jr., founder and Executive Director of the Digital Freedom Network; Gino Bello, the Singapore-based Senior Director of independent global business advisory firm FTI Consulting; and Drexx Laggui, principal consultant of information security consulting firm Laggui & Associates. After delivering an overview of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2015, Prof. Disini explained each of the new types of judicial warrants introduced by the Rule on Cybercrime Warrants. Mr. Bello and Mr. Laggui supplied concrete real-world examples of the situations covered by each type of warrant. Several participants asked questions drawn from their practical experiences, further fleshing out the potential applications of these new tools for law investigation and digital forensics.
