Xerox Gets Patent for Blockchain Auditing System for Electronic Documents

Xerox recently won a patent from the USPTO for its blockchain-powered auditing system for electronic files. The technology will be able to track changes made to a file and will be tamper-proof due to its decentralized verification mechanism.

Xerox said that the system will have a series of blockchain nodes that may approve or dismiss each amendment made. According to the patent filed in August 2017, the management network will notify users whenever a particular node fails to approve the document, or if the content differs from its verified version.

The company added that the technology has a wide variety of applications, such as in medical and financial records, tax papers, educational documents, particularly in criminal investigation records, where interview notes, crime scene photos and DNA test results must be protected from alterations and tampering.
