Yelp, Consumer Watchdog Fail to Intervene in Google Antitrust Case
The General Court in Luxembourg had reportedly shut down the bid of Yelp and Consumer Watchdog, as well as the application of other Google rivals, in the search giant’s latest EU antitrust lawsuit after the court said they had no direct interest in the case.
The case accuses Google of unfairly favoring its own comparison shopping service, to the detriment of its competitors. The case, which was triggered by UK price comparison shopping site Foundem, may cost Google a fine of 2.4 billion euro.
The court said that since Yelp does not operate a search service that specializes in comparison shopping results, it cannot be directly affected by the ruling regarding the contested act and thus does not satisfy the criterion laid down in the case-law.
