Google reported this week that YouTube had taken down more than 58 million videos and 224 million comments during the third quarter due to policy violations.
The report is said to be an effort to demonstrate progress in suppressing problematic content as governments and interest groups in the US, Europe and Asia increase pressure on the video streaming service to act faster on extremist and hateful content on its platform.
YouTube said that its automated detection tools helped it to quickly identify spam, extremist content and nudity, and said that in September, it had removed 90 percent of the nearly 10,400 videos removed for violent extremism or 279,600 videos removed for child safety issues received fewer than 10 views.
