It was reported last Tuesday that a number of Russian agencies, including the Central Election Commission (CEC) and communications regulator Roskomnadzor, had complained to Google about YouTube ads bought by the opposition are violating election laws.
CEC member Alexander Klyukin was quoted saying that interference by foreign companies in the country’s electoral process will be considered meddling and a violation of the law.
Leonid Volkov, an ally of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, admitted that the ads were bought by his team. Navalny, who was prevented from running against Putin, said that the CEC is lying about the laws that it supposed to enforce.
