Google Unable to Effectively Detect Fake Tech Support Ads
Google’s director of global product policy, David Graff recently wrote that the company is finding it increasingly difficult to discern ads from bad actors and legitimate providers.
He added that tech support fraudsters are getting more proficient at what they do. Aside from using websites that instill trust, the scammers also try and get as much information from the user’s system as possible to make the fake ad look more difficult to spot.
Google says that to counter this kind of activity, the company implemented a new policy that will only allow ads from verified third-party support providers. Graff said that while the verification program that will be run at a global level in the following months will not guarantee the disappearance of fraudster, it should make their endeavors increasingly difficult.
