Microsoft revealed this week that it was able to block a Russian hacker from interfering with the 2018 midterm elections in the US.
Tom Burt, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Customer Security and Trust, additionally revealed that the hackers attempted to phish three election candidates. However, he said that the scale of the hacking attempts were not comparable to that of 2016.
Burt explained that the attackers have yet to infiltrate think tanks and academia, but it does not mean that that they would not try to do so in the future.
