Trump Criticizes EU’s $5 Billion Fine Against Google

President Donald Trump slammed the European Union on Twitter for imposing a $5 billion fine on Google, saying that the move was merely meant to take advantage of the US. In a recent CBS interview, Trump also called the bloc an enemy in trade.

However, two former antitrust enforcers said while it was unusual, it was not unheard of for officials to comment on decisions by enforcers in other jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, Gene Kimmelman, a Justice Department veteran, called Trump’s comments “unproductive” and even if the results are unfavorable, interference with how the law is enforced in the US would likewise not be welcome.
