US Introduces Bill to Counter Dwindling Cybersecurity Workforce

A bipartisan bill which seeks to address the shortage of workers in the cybersecurity industry was recently introduced by US lawmakers in the House of Representatives.

Based on Nevada’s new cybersecurity apprenticeship program, the ‘Cyber Ready Workforce Act (H.R.6791)’ will establish a grant program under the Department of Labor which will allow the Secretary of Labor to fund workforce intermediaries that support the creation, implementation, and expansion of apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity.

A recent CompTIA report says that there were 301,873 cybersecurity-related job openings in the private and public sectors between April 2017 and March 2018.
