Facebook Offers Upgraded Cybersecurity for Officials, Candidates
Nathaniel Gleicher, head of cybersecurity policy for Facebook, said in a recent blog post that the company is now offering candidates and officials upgraded cybersecurity through a new pilot program.
Gleicher explained that Facebook will be giving extra attention to the accounts enrolled in the program which are typically targeted by hackers and foreign actors. He added that heightened protections will also be given to pages linked with the candidate’s staff members and representatives from federal and state political party committees.
Gleicher revealed that an attack on one account can trigger a review and protection of other affiliated accounts in the program. The company will also be sharing relevant information to the authorities and other companies to maximize effectiveness.
